Choosing you cake
How do I choose my cakeOur Wedding and Civil Partnership home page has links to our four collections of cake styles:
Contemporary
Chocolate
Towers
Couture
Please browse these designs for a style you like and then consider the below options for cake flavours, fillings and finishes. Alternatively - we have a 'Couture Service' if you could completely unique and bespoke cake designed for you.
Menu of flavours
We freshly bake all our delicious cakes ourselves and use real ingredients to achieve fantastic flavours.
From free range eggs through to unwaxed freshly zested lemons and the highest quality Beligan chocolate we make every effort to create the perfect cake.
Our delicious wedding cakes come in a variety of mouth watering flavours:
Firm favourites:
A delicate Madagascan Vanilla Sponge layered with raspberry conserve and vanilla butter cream.
Light Lemon Sponge layered with a clean lemon buttercream and fruity raspberry conserve. Also available with a whipped lemon curd buttercream.
Our own Brandied Traditional English Fruitcake bursting with currents, raisins, almonds, freshly zested oranges and lemons, and plump cherries.
Decadent Belgian Chocolate Sponge - a moist chocolate sponge layered with homemade dark Belgian chocolate truffle ganache.
Additional ganache flavours include Milk and White Chocolate Ganache or Chocolate Orange, Strawberry, Coffee, Caramel, and Mint Chocolate.
Delicious as either as a 'coffee slice' or served with fresh berries, cream and coulis for desert.
Specialty choices
These options are wonderful cakes, but please remember when catering for large numbers of guests that not all guests will be as passionate as you on some of the more unusual flavours.
Scrumptiously Moist Carrot Cake packed full of sweet juicy carrots, walnuts with a zesty lemon buttercream (best suited to cutting cakes)
Light Almond
An incredibly light delicate almond sponge with complimenting melt in your mouth almond butter cream
Stylish and Smooth Coffee Sponge
A rich coffee sponge with smooth coffee butter creme.
Summer Orange
A light and delicate orange sponge which always brings summer to mind. Beautifully layered with a whipped orange flower butter cream
Lemon and Poppyseed
Lemon with zing and a crunch! The combination of lemon with a slightly nutty texture is a delicious summer cake and refreshingly cleansing on the palate when served as a coffee slice.
Spicy Cinnamon
A spicy cinnamon sponge with contrasting sweet vanilla butter cream
Banana Cake
We use only fully ripened bananas to create this delicious sponge and it's accompanied by our whipped Madagascan vanilla butter cream. (best suited to cutting cakes)
If you are choosing cup cakes or individually iced cakes - please see our separate menu of flavours within the 'Cake Towers' section.
Marzipan
All our wedding cakes are designed to have a thin base layer of marzipan before the outer icing or chocolate finish for several very good reasons:
- Freshness - it seals the cake and keeps your delicious sponges to their very optimum.
- Show through - the marzipan limits any show through on the icing from the cake underneat.
- Structure - it gives a stacked cake a more robust structure.
- Finish - a base layer of marzipan help us achieve a much smoother finish with the icing.
- Taste - we think it enhances the cake too!
Please note our marzipan is not the hard, yellow, synthetic stuff we all remember from our childhood!! Ours has a very high sugar content, pure ground almonds, is a natural pale cream colour and tastes delicious!
Please ask us for a sample to taste if you are not sure.
Special Dietary Requirements
Gluten/wheat free
We are happy to make gluten and wheat free cakes either as a top tier, an individually iced gift cake if it is needed for one guest, or as the whole wedding cake if required. However, we can only create gluten/wheat free cakes in vanilla or lemon sponge.
Nut Free
We can ensure that every care is given to producing your cake in a nut free environment. However we are unable to guarantee completely 'nut free' as almost all ingredients carry warnings with regard to trace nut elements.
Egg Free / Indian Weddings
Our Indian brides have asked us to create a cake option in an Egg Free Sponge which we are now delighted to offer in vanilla sponge layered with your choice of filling. This cake base is best suited to a chocolate cigarello finish.
We are also happy to make egg free top tier cakes but not usually as a whole sugar paste iced wedding cake as it's harder to get a totally smooth finish. Generally we can make a top tier or individually iced gift cakes.
Cake Tastings
You can come to visit us at any time to view our display of wedding cakes.
If you would like a tasting or to discuss your ideas with our wedding consultant then we recommend you book an appointment in advance as we can be very busy.
For your tasting we will prepare a small sample of the cake you think you might like so you can taste it before making your final decision.
We do not post samples as we want you to enjoy your cake at its very best!
Themes and coordinating colours
Each of our cakes can incorporate design elements to suit the individual requirements of our customers. These may be adjusting ribbon and icing colours, or creating hand crafted sugar versions of your bridal flowers.
Couture Service
For a completely bespoke design we have our 'Couture Service'. Call us to book a consultation if you have something special in mind.
Portions and price guide
You will first need to know how many guests will be at your reception and which size of portion you will require. We offer two portion sizes:
Coffee Size (measuring 1" x 1" at the top and 3" high)
Ideal for serving to your guests during speeches and after the meal. The best cake types for this size are sponges such as vanilla, lemon, coffee, traditional fruit and chocolate.
Dessert Slices (measuring 1" x 2" at the top and 3" high)
These can be served as dessert with cream, coulis and fresh berries. Our decadent Beligian chocolate cake is ideally suited as a dessert choice.
Our easy to follow chart below gives you the size of cake you will need for the number of guests you have at your wedding and the cost.

Chocolate cakes in the summer
Don't worry, chocolate is not as scary as it sounds. Once created it is a very stable cake and will be fine for both sensible transportation and display. However, it must be transported in the boot of an air-conditioned car but not a saloon, as the cake must have a cool air flow. At the venue don't put the cake in direct sunlight and ideally the room will be air conditioned.

Booking your cake
When should I order my cake?Wedding cakes are often ordered a year in advance so remember to book early! Bookings are usually made between three and six months before the wedding date, particularly in the busy summer months. This gives us sufficient time to book you into our baking schedule and to design and create all the exquisite sugar flowers and decorations which may be required.
Late bookings
If you do need to book at short notice we will always try to accommodate those working to shorter timeframes so just give us a call, we can usually help.
Budget
If you are working with a budget in mind let us know at the beginning. The portions, shape, look and style of cake will all be influenced by your budget and we can help you look at all the options and come up with the ideal cake.
Payment
A one third part payment is required to confirm your booking and secure a date in our diary.
Final payment is required 21 days before the collection date.
If you are booking cup or individually iced cakes, you may also need to send us a returnable deposit in the form of a cheque for the cake stand. We hold this as security and it is refunded on the safe return of the cake stand.
Payment can be made by:
Debit Card - in person or over the phone
Credit card - in person or over the phone
Cheque - which should be made payable to Cakes 4 Fun Ltd
Cheques can be pain in person or can be posted to us.
Date deposit - reservations
If you know the date of your wedding but have yet to decide on your chosen design we offer 'Date Deposits' so that we can reserve the date for you. You can pay a £100 date deposit which secures your cake in our baking schedule for your chosen day but gives you more time to make your cake choice. This is particularly popular for spring and summer weddings as these are our busiest times!
Amendments and cancellations
Any amends need to be made one full month before the wedding date to allow for changes to our schedule. Significant amends may incur an additional cost.
If you need to cancel your order after paying your deposit or 'date deposit' there is a £50 cancellation charge if you cancel more than 3 months from your date.
Within 1 to 3 months of the wedding date the cancellation charge is £100.
Within one month of the wedding date your full deposit of one third will be retained
Within 14 days of the wedding you may be subject to 100% cancellation charges.
Getting it to the big day!
CollectionThe majority of our wedding cakes are collected the day before or two days before the wedding.
When you collect your cake it will have been signed off by our kitchen team and wedding team as perfect and ready for transportation.
You will be asked to sign a receipt for your cake which confirms that it is in perfect condition and as ordered.
The cake is now your personal responsibility and Cakes 4 Fun is not liable for any unfortunate accidents that may befall your cake.
Cake packaging
We will ensure the most appropriate boxing option is chosen for your cake.
Most cakes are presented on an iced board and are boxed ready for collection either as a stacked cake all in one, or in individual boxes according to the style of your cake. We will already have agreed this with you when we discuss your order. We will also have already discussed stands and presentation and provide detailed instructions on how to assemble your cake in situ.
Transporting your own cake
Once boxed your cake will be easy to transport if you follow this simple guide:
Clear boot space.
It is really important to have a completely clear boot or boot space.
If your cake is tiered, we would recommend an estate or hatchback so that the cake can be placed into the boot without having to be angled in any way.
Standard stacked wedding cake boxes range from 14" cubed to 18" cubed.
Do check that your boot can accommodate both the height and depth before collecting the cake.
Air Conditioning
For all our cakes (and defiantly for chocolate or if it is a particularly hot day), then we suggest that your cake should be transported in the boot of an air-conditioned vehicle but not a saloon, as the cake must have a cool air flow.
Don't worry, chocolate is not as scary as it sounds. Once created it is a very stable cake and will be fine for both sensible transportation and display. At the venue don't put the cake in direct sunlight and ideally the room will be air conditioned.
Drive Slowly
No racing starts or sudden stops and bouncing over bumps in the road will ensure your cake reaches the venue safely!
We do not recommend that cakes be transported on seats or on passenger's laps as they are not fully level surfaces.

Cake storage
Your cake should be kept upright and level at all times and should be stored at room temperature or in an air-conditioned room.
Do not refrigerate your cake and under no circumstance store or display the cake in front of a window or by a direct heat source.
Setting your cake up on the day
In the excitement of choosing the cake - don't forget the cake table! You will need to ensure the venue sets aside a table and you will need to arrange the dressing - a swath of tulle or a sprinkling of fresh or sugar rose petals will really show off your cake and enhance the photo opportunity. Why not create a smaller decoration of sugar or fresh flowers to attach to your cake knife to match those on the main cake?
We suggest that our cakes (particularly those with pillars or which are separated for insertion of fresh flowers) are not displayed on or near dance areas or upon sprung dance floors as movement could make the cake unstable. Also avoid areas of heavy guest traffic in case your cake is accidentally knocked.
Good lighting is great but make sure there are no very hot spot lights on chocolate cakes as you may melt the chocolate! Windows and sky lights provide good lighting but with chocolate cakes on a very hot day do ensure your venue does not place your cake in direct sunlight. Venues can normally pull a curtain across the room for part of the day to protect the cake until you arrive.
If your cake is going to be placed in the corner of the reception room we can design it to perfectly suit this position so it can be shown off to the greatest effect.
Don't move it! Once they are set up the majority of our cakes should not be moved until they are being dismantled for cutting up.
Damages and emergency repairs
Should your cake become damaged after you have signed for it and collected it, we offer a 'cake doctor' service as we may well be able to help rescue it! We can send an emergency team to attend the cake with the appropriate icings, cutters, and general equipment and carry out repairs. The rate for the team to travel to the venue and carry out repairs to the cake is £50 per hour and begins from the departure time through to return time. Mileage for the round trip is charged at 30 pence per mile.
Delivery and set up options
We offer two delivery options:
Delivery Only: your cake can be delivered fully boxed to either yourself or your venue. The venue will then sign for it's safe delivery and it can be set up when ever required. Charges depend on distance to the delivery address.
As a guide, for a central London delivery you can expect to pay around £90.
Delivery and Set-Up: A cake designer can deliver your cake to the reception venue and assemble it for you. There is a charge for this service which is calculated on the distance travelled and the time spent on assembling your cake.
As a guide, for a central London delivery you can expect to pay around £120.
And then...
Keeping your top tierNo problem! When we discuss the base cake we can ensure the choice will be suitable for storing over a longer period of time and give you instructions on how to keep this layer.
Most couples choose to freeze their top tier - even their traditional rich brandied fruit cake!
Using your stored top tier
A re-ice service is also available for when you need to use this layer! Whether for an Anniversary, Christening or Naming Day - we can re-ice your cake to suit any occasion.
