feather wedding cakes
For a contemporary look, this stunning feather cake can't be beaten!

The centre ranges from rich dark decadent chocolate cake with ganache through to light tangy citrus sponge with lemon curd butter cream or a brandied rich traditional English fruit cake encased marzipan and soft fondant icing.

The cake is then finished with a wonderful 'feather effect' that is created from rice paper. We then dust the cake with sparkling edible glitter to complete the stunning effect or can colour the tips of your cake to achieve a totally different finish!

Rice as a symbol has been used for over the years to wish a couple a fruitful and prosperous marriage which is where the tradition of throwing rice (or more often rice paper now!) over the couple when they exit the church stems from. Now these good wishes can be shared with all your guests when they receive their portion of cake with delicate rice paper!

Prices start from £470 for 94 portions and can created to feed any number of portions.

OK! magazine
OK! magazine, Issue 463, 5 April 2005A Cakes 4 Fun creation was featured in the 5 April issue of OK! magazine.

Aldo and Nikki Zilli's wedding cakeWhen Aldo Zilli married Nikki Welch in Barbados they returned to celebrate with all their friends and family with a lavish party at London's Cocoon restaurant.

Aldo's best man was Chris Evans and there were a host of famous names there to help them celebrate.

Nikki's theme for the wedding was feathers and the cake fitted beautifully with delicate 'feathers' of rice paper. The bride and groom chose to have a rich traditional English fruit cake but the feather decoration gave the 7 tier cake a modern twist!

timescales
Wedding cakes are often ordered a year in advance so remember to book early!

Ideally you will need to order a minimum of 12-16 weeks prior to your wedding date, particularly for the busy summer months to ensure that Cakes 4 Fun can schedule adequate time to create your cake. This allows us to book you into our baking schedule and to design and create all the exquisite sugar flowers and decorations that may be required . Contact us to discuss the possibility of a shorter timescale if required.

budget
The portions, shape, look and style of cake will all be influenced by the budget that you have set yourself. Carolyn can work from your budget to help you look at all the options and come up with the ideal creation to suit your requirements.

payment
A one third deposit is required at the time of booking and final payment is required one week prior to the wedding day.

sizes
Once you have decided on the number of guests at your reception, Carolyn can guide you as to the size of the cake you will require to feed this number. You will need to decide if 'coffee' slices or 'desert' slices will be served as this will affect the size of the cake. Some brides choose to have additional 'side cakes' which are used to feed their guests, enabling them to keep a layer for a future christening!

the taste
Fewer cakes are now created from traditional fruit cake, so let your taste buds go wild! Carrot, banana, lemon, chocolate, almond and vanilla are just a few of the mouth watering flavours to choose from. Fillings can be created to contrast or compliment the taste and texture of your cake, or why not have different flavoured layers?

the shape
Classic or contemporary - the shape will need to fit in with the style and theme of the day and you will need to bear in mind that the portions cut from unusual shapes will differ from a more classic shape.

the 'look'
You may consider running with a chosen colour, motif or theme to individualise your wedding and this can be incorporated into the cake design. Swatches or fabric, examples of fresh flowers or a chosen shape such as a heart theme can all be faithfully matched within your cake.

presentation
In the excitement of choosing the cake - don't forget the cake table! You will need to instruct your reception organiser to set aside a table and will need to arrange the dressing - a swath of tulle or scattered fresh or sugar rose petals will really show off your cake and enhance the photo opportunity! Why not create a smaller decoration of sugar flowers to attach to your cake knife to match those on the main cake!
